HOW DO WE DO IT?

*
At the subscribers property:
  • 2.4GHz Wireless Access point
  • Built-in or External Antenna
  • Power over Ethernet Technology
  • Wall/Roof/Chimney Mountings
  • 20 Metres of CAT5 Cable
  • All Connectors
Community Hub (Azure Site):
  • Bi-Directional Sat System
  • Satellite Dish
  • ISP Servers for Network and Account Management, Radius Server, Proxy Server, Web and Mail Servers, Messaging, Forums and Local Advertising content.

SPEEDS...

There are two speed considerations with Community Systems:

1. The WLAN:

Subscriber <---> Azure Local Hub and Subscriber <--> Subscriber

2. Space Segment

Azure Local Hub <--> Satellite <--> Distant Hub <--> Internet

WLAN Either 11 MBits/sec or 54 MBits/sec nominal speed.
Space Segment Tailored to demand and usage. Typically 1-2MBits/sec

This combination when combined with a heavy weight proxy server will deliver very fast local intranet fast internet access to users.

This system can be scaled to serve any number of subscribers in a variety of locations using sector, omni, point to point antenna and hotspots.

What is a Community Wireless LAN?
*
A community Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a computer network, with subscribers linked by microwave transmitter/receivers, operating at high bandwidth - typically 54 MBits/sec or 11MBits/sec nominal speed.
*
A community LAN can be designed to serve almost any number of subscribers - who can be in a town centre covered by the main network access points (with sector or omni antennae) - or up to 20 kilometres out of town, with individual point-to-point directional links.
*
Subscribers connect to a central service hub via a wireless network adaptor (on their property), which controls their access rights, and provides them with the network services.
*
Through the service hub they can connect to other local subscribers, swap files, or store data in their own directory. The network is so fast that subscribers can download mp3 and DVD (mpeg) files from the internet to their own filespace and then broadcast them to other subscribers!
*
A full ISP is usually set up on the hub with it's own domain name, e-mail and web services for subscribers. This will also host the local intranet, local advertising, instant messaging, forums, e-mail and web space.
*

In each community an enterprise satellite up/down link is connected to the hub which provides subscribers with access to Broadband Internet.

*

Our satellite systems use Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) -   technology (the same as Sat TV) to download data at lightening speeds. This is combined with proprietary software acceleration (for http:) which minimises satellite latency, and when teamed with a heavy weight proxy server, offers ultra fast internet surfing.
